THE FUTURE OF THE CHIDEOCK SOCIETY

A Wander through Chideock

THE CHIDEOCK SOCIETY: Report from Lyn Crisp.

As many of you know just over a year ago on 3rd October the main ‘stalwart’ of the Chideock Society – Kate Geraghty – sadly lost her long fight with cancer. The current committee together with myself, have carried on over the last year but it was always the situation that many of the committee wished to leave the committee to follow other projects and commitments.  Fortunately, two new committee members – Frances Colville and Sandra Conroy have been elected to the committee who, together with myself and Sal Robinson, hope to secure the future of The Chideock Society for some time to come.  Our thanks go to the past committee, Richard Benjamin, Julia Greenshields, Jean Jones, Pam Fuller and Paul and Gill Simpson for all their hard work over the past years.

Our thoughts are to make the Chideock Society more ‘history’ based and are in the process of setting up a new website – chideockhistory.org. Partly the reason for this is the large amount of archive held by the Chideock Society which we hope to ‘scan’ and place on to the website so the ‘originals’ can be held in either Bridport or Dorchester archives.  The large number of photographs will be retained by the Society and it is hoped that maybe once a year they can be ‘put on show’.  The ‘Wander Through Chideock’ book continues to sell well as does the Chideock Map.  Due also to a smaller committee it is thought that instead of having monthly events we will pursue the idea of two or three events a year but on a better scale.  It is also felt that ‘membership’ and membership fees is both time consuming and a little unnecessary albeit we will be asking everyone if they would like to stay on the email list to be advised when events are happening.

The above made changes to the Constitution necessary and these were ‘voted’ for an approved at our AGM held on 8th October 2019.

The talk at our AGM by Steve Marsh, retired Mounted Police Officer for the Metropolitan Police, was well attended and an excellent event with everyone agreeing how informative and entertaining the talk had been.  Those who missed it missed a great evening!

All Chideock Society members (those on email) will shortly receive an email asking them if they wish to stay on the email list of events.

We will shortly be arranging the planting on a Rowan Tree in Clapps Mead Playing Field in Memory of Kate and more details will follow after discussions with the family.

In any event, if anyone has any questions or would like to discuss the changes made please contact me, Lyn Crisp on 01297 489098 or email me on lyncrisp@chideockandseatown.co.uk or talk to any Committee Member.
