Chideock Fete Committee

We make Chideock fun!

The Chideock Fete Committee was formed over 20 years ago as an offshoot of The Chideock Society. Its primary purpose is to put on a village fete, usually every two years.

Chideock Village FeteWe use all the funds raised at fetes and other events for village activities, and to help other groups in the village:

  • For example, we recently gave £150 to the Chideock Parish Magazine to help keep it afloat, and have donated £100 to the new Chideock and Seatown website.
  • The Fete Committee also helped refurbish the village hall round 18 months ago.
  • We also sponsor the annual torchlight procession around the village on New Year’s Eve – an event that has grown enormously in popularity and now regularly draws crowds from as far away as Bridport!

We’ve just had our big event, the village fete on the playing fields on 31 July 2011, which was lots of fun, with bottle tombola, games, and teas courtesy of the The WI.

Next, we turn our hand to organising the duck race at Seatown on 28 August 2011.

the Duck Race at SeatownNext year looks like being a big one for the Committee, as we plan to arrange a whole weekend of activities to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June 2012. We’ll rent a marquee and there is likely to be a fete, church service and BIG village party to finish off. Ideas welcome for other events to help the celebrations.

We generally welcome ideas and enthusiastic volunteers, so please look out for the date of our next meeting on this website and come along where we’ll be making the preparations for next year’s fete!
