CHIDEOCK W.I. update and next meeting

Chideock WI WebsiteA ‘Cabaret Evening’ of sentimental music from the 50’s and 60s, with wine and cheese as befits those decades was held in the Village Hall on 21st March 2014.  Entertainer, Trish Lewis sang songs for which many of us remembered both music and words all too well.  The purpose was to raise funds for our meeting place over the past almost 100 years, which currently finds itself in need of funds to meet escalating running costs and essential refurbishment.A donation of £624 was presented by President Shirley Lambert to Richard Benjamin, Chairman of the Village Hall Management Committee.

This year Shirley, our excellent President for the last 3 years is retiring, with our grateful thanks for her leadership and example.  Clem is also retiring from the committee after too many years for her to recall! We will miss her at the monthly meeting’s raffle table. It is also a time for welcomes; to Linda Gould elected as our new President, and Diane Benjamin joining the committee for the first time, but also handing over the role of PR – so there will be a new hand on the keyboard writing up the WI newsletter in May.

Thanks at the end of another year go especially to – Pam, for running the trading stall.  The March stall of Bags and Books was particularly popular. Noreen and Marilyn for taking on the catering work for the Cabaret evening and our delicious Ploughman’s lunch – an unbeatable duo.  Also thanks to Helena for washing-up! Annette and David for hosting yet another Spring Cakes and Savouries stall in their garage in Foss Orchard.  This year’s raised £169.00. Linda for her unfailing enthusiasm and ideas for the craft group and Noreen for holding the meetings of this productive group in her home.

Next Meeting:   Village Hall at 2.30pm, Tuesday May  6th 2014 Our 95th Birthday Party with speaker Penny Dunscombe‘The Joy of Singing’  Competition: a four line song to the tune of Happy Birthday. New Members and Visitors are welcome.
