A.35 Closures in April. A35 Morcombelake pedestrian crossing.

A35 Morcombelake pedestrian crossing
Highways England plans, builds, operates and maintains England’s motorways and major A roads. I am writing to let you know we will shortly be carrying out works which may affect you. Please accept our apologies for the short notice on this occaision and for any inconvenience this will cause.
Works
To increase connectivity within Morcombelake we will install a pedestrian crossing. Enabling works have now been completed and work will shortly begin on the pedestrian crossing itself. The crossing will be located on the A35 at the western end of the village close to Ship Knapp junction (between the eastbound and westbound bus stops).
This site was chosen as the best spot for safety, visibility and connectivity. We will also install high friction surfacing, warning signs and lighting to ensure maximum visibility of the crossing.
Overnight road closures will be in place on the A35 between Axminster and Bridport in both directions on the following dates:
15 to 21 April 2020 – between the hours of 8pm and 6am the following morning, on week nights only.
Daytime works will take place on the A35 at Morcombelake on the following dates:
5 March to 15 April 2020 – 24/7 traffic lights with a single lane closure will be in place from 9:30am each Monday until 11:30am each Friday. We will remove all traffic management for the weekend and for the Easter break.
Access from the A35 to Shipp Knapp and Veriott’s Lane will be restricted depending on the section of carriageway that work is being completed on. Access will be possible via the alternative turning for Shipp Knapp and Gibb’s Lane.

What does this mean for you?
Residents – whilst overnight road closures are in place access for residents will be maintained via our gatemen. Please show a copy of this letter as proof of residency and you will be escorted through the works, this may involve a short delay depending upon our stage of works.
Motorists – whilst overnight road closures are in place all through traffic will be diverted via the A358 to Chard and on to Bridport via Crewkerne and the A3066 through Beaminster.
Bus stops – the eastbound and westbound bus stops will be closed for the duration of the works. This is to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians due to the proximity of the bus stops to the pedestrian crossing construction works. Signs are in place at the bus stops to advise customers to use the Moores/Post Office bus stops during this period.
Please note precise dates and times of the works may be subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances, we will notify you of changes via advance roadside warning signs. We will make every effort to ensure the impact on the local community and travelling public is kept to a minimum.
