CHIDEOCK W.I. CELEBRATE THE QUEENS BIRTHDAY

DSCN5468 Chideock W.I Celebrate our sovereign’s 90 Birthday on 21st April 2016.   This was no ordinary meeting but an extra special opportunity for us to celebrate together an amazing event in a lovely setting in party mode. In an exciting and friendly atmosphere 19 Chideock W.I. members met to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth 11 at Fernhill Hotel for afternoon tea. Suitably dressed for the occasion we made a colourful picture with an array of fascinators, lovely hats,  and of course posh frocks and shoes befitting to “Her Majesty’s Birthday Party”. However it wasn’t all about eating. In typical W.I. custom we broadened our awareness of Royal history and tested our knowledge of well – known facts. We took part in a simple fun royal quiz, some didn’t do well but all shared the prize box of chocolates. Memories and interesting items about the Royals were passed on and a scrapbook containing these and some photos of the day will be compiled for the archives. Several ladies confessed to disappointment as children, when seeing the Queen wearing not a crown but a hat. We ended the afternoon rendering “Happy Birthday” to Her Majesty and group photographs on the hotel steps.   Report by iris Jones.         Chideock W.I.

Report of Chideock W.I. A.G.M. and monthly Meeting held on Tuesday 5th April 2016

The Chideock W.I. was a sociable and interesting afternoon. Meeting at lunchtime members were greeted with a delicious ploughman’s lunch expertly prepared by Noreen Vaughan and Marilyn Tuck.  Well! We certainly “tucked in” Marilyn. Lunch was followed by a short quiz organized by Carol Batchelor, not serious stuff, no prizes but fun. This put us in the mood for a fascinating new craft project led by Tish Wynford Thomas. Using neckties,

We hope our menfolk didn’t miss too many from their collection, we learnt the art of turning them into roses. The object is to place a rose for each member on a wheel of life in the form of a large Dorset button. This is another craft work in progress so watch this space. The A.G.M. started promptly in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Business was conducted efficiently by the retiring President Linda Gould. Visitor Nora Arnold from Thorncombe W.I. who was to witness nominations and oversee voting for President was welcomed by Doreen Moore. Mary Rogers was unanimously voted in and presented with the President’s badge by Linda. The Treasurer’s report was read and it was impressive to realize how much the Chideock W.I. had raised in various events for charity during the past year. On conclusion of the A.G.M. Tea and cake was served by Brenda Nattriss and Jenny Greetham who were thanked together with our two excellent lunchtime cooks. After tea a short meeting was held. We were reminded of forthcoming events, the craft group and a high tea at Fernhill to celebrate the queen’s 90th birthday. The Easter cake stall raised £144 for charities in our community and we are grateful to all in the village who came out to support us on such a stormy day.
